No Pumpkin Spice Latte on this first day of Fall!

First full day of Fall still Summery for some

Yes, today marks the autumnal equinox, where the sun crosses the celestial equator and begins moving southward in the northern hemisphere.  The days gradually begin to shorten, night lengthens, temperatures drop, and leaves begin changing color to eventually return to dust.  As we progress into the fall season, we'll begin to feel the chill of the approaching winter on our cheeks, and be reminded, by nature, of the ongoing cycle of life and death.
On a more positive note, however, with this season of natural things decaying, comes many opportunities to enjoy a different side of the outdoors.  The cooler air is more relaxing for camping, hiking, walking, bicycling, grilling, or what have you.  There are harvest festivals or farmers markets in quaint little towns, offering fun for people of all ages.  The colors of fall foliage are beautiful to behold, and if you enjoy coffee, I am of the opinion that it simply tastes better this time of year.
Now, as the title states, here in the Midwest, it does not feel like fall, nor has it even felt like late summer at all, this past week.  Instead, it has felt like mid-summer, with a consistent string of warm, muggy days.  Today, it is predicted to reach 91° and is already 89°, a most unpleasant condition.  Consequently, I had to pass on my traditional, celebratory Pumpkin Spice Latte this morning, for this first day of fall.  Fortunately, this weekend should bring a more proper setting, as a cold front is predicted to usher in more fall-like temps.  Perhaps, Saturday morning, being only in the upper 50's, will present a delightful opportunity to break open that bottle of Pumpkin Spice syrup for the first time this year.
Cheers to all, this first day of fall!
