Look! What do you see? Buildings? Yes, but beyond that? Summer haaaze...everywhere! O, my soul! Where are the cool, overcast skies of a Pacific Northwest morning? Far, far beyond my reach. And when will this present haze diminish? Hopefully not too long from now. Summer haze...this is one characteristic of the Midwest that I knew I would dread, for I am a cold-climate individual, and do not prefer the heat of summer, which is predicted to endure through the rest of this weekend. I do hope this shall be the last warm weekend of summer.
On the bright side, Autumn is less than two weeks away, bringing with it the hope of relief. Even though warm temperatures often persist into October, the days get shorter, limiting the heating effect. I long to open the windows of our house and ventilate with fresh air. I'm beginning to toss around in my sleep from the stuffy, recycled air that comes from running A/C all summer long. I am thankful for A/C. Don't get me wrong, but naturally cool air is much better! We had a bit of a respite a couple of weeks ago, where it dipped into the 50's for a few nights. Sleep was as sweet as molasses.
So, this will likely be a mostly-indoor-weekend, since there is plenty to do around the house. Our closet shelf came crashing down, early Labor Day morning, when I brought my hand down on a centipede I spied, crawling around on the clothes stacked on top. It was quite a scene, witnessing a 6 foot shelf, loaded with about 80 lbs. of folded and hanging clothes, come crashing down while barely awake. It didn't help that it had been lousily hung on just the drywall. I will endeavor to re-mount that shelf on wall studs, and put up one or two more to disperse the load. I should have declined on having our contractor do that job anyway, and saved a few bucks, and a little stress, in the process. Lesson learned!
